[Class 29] Absorption machines. - A generator-absorber of the kind having a central heating tube 2 and an annular space for solid absorbent is provided with heat-conducting longitudinal partitions 3, 10, 13 so spaced by flanges at their edges that the shortest distance, measured within adjacent 'pairs of partitions between the inner tube and the outer casing is greater than the radial distance therebetween. The spaces between some of the partitions may be packed with copper wool, while the remainder are packed with the absorbent, e.g., calcuim chloride, which expands during absorption. The partitions may be of V-shape or longitudinally corrugated. In a modification, the generator-absorber is provided with transverse partitions 26, 30, Fig. 5.
