Abstract
512,499. Safes &c. POWER, R. F. March 15, 1938, No. 7940. [Class 44] Heat transmitted to the interior of a fireresisting safe &c. is dissipated by conducting it away from the top thereof by a conductor 6 to a container 3 for a solid or liquid which will be converted into a vapour or gas thereby. The vapour or gas is preferably discharged into the safe interior. De-aerated water or solid or liquid carbon dioxide may be used. The conductor 6 may be lagged. by paper &c. or painted to retard transmission of heat. In Fig. 2, the container 3 contains water and the cylinder 8, carbon dioxide, sealed therein by a heat fusible seal 9. The outlet 5 from the container 3 into the safe is sealed by a heat fusible seal 7. In Fig. 3, the tube 11, provided in the top of the safe, provides a thermocycle with the container 3. The safe is lagged at 10 by diatomaceous earth &c.
