Abstract

512,165. Treating air. PROSSER, J. F. C., and PROSSER, H. K. April 12, 1938, No. 11148. [Class 137] [Also in Group XL] Apparatus for purifying air comprises a casing a adapted to be attached to or suspended from the ceiling of a room and having openings e at the lower part through which air can enter and an air exit passage p at the upper part, a plurality of tubular electric discharge units f, g, arranged vertically or at an incline so that air can pass through and over 'them, an electrically driven fan j for promoting the flow of air, and an electric transformer n for supplying energy to the discharge units. The casing is connected to a support b by hinges d and bolts c, and a ring h carried from the support by bars i supports the discharge units by arms l and the motor k and fan j by arms m connected to a ring r surrounding and secured to the motor casing. The electric discharge units consist of a cylinder f of quartz or other insulating material and inner and outer mesh or perforated sheet metal electrodes g. A fabric or other air filter o may be arranged over the fan inlet.
