Convention date, Sept. 16, 1937 [Class. 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In an apparatus for determining the diameter of a long bore, pins 15, 16 urged apart by spring 17 engage the walls of the bore, a bell crank lever 19 depressing a plunger 20 when the pins move inward to cause a feeler rod 22 to rotate a gear 27 through the rack 28, electrical transmitters being operated through variable gearing to give coarse and fine indications on a recorder at a remote point. The housing 1 is held centrally in the bore by runners 5 pressed outwardly by springs 7, 8 acting on members 11, 12 engaging supports 6. In order to determine the diameter of a rifled bore both in the grooves and on the lands, a guide member 48 is arranged to be inserted in one of two holders 47, 50 displaced angularly from one another by half the angle between two successive grooves, the guide member being held in position by a projection 57 on the holder engaging in a groove 54. The apparatus may be adapted for conical bores the pencil of the recorder tracing a curve which may be compared with the desired curve.
