Abstract

512,073. Screws. STEVENS, A. H. (Holo- Krome Screw Corporation). March 21, 1938, No. 8646. [Class 89 (i)] The heads of connecting- members, such as socketheaded screws are formed with an upper smooth band 3 of the maximum diameter of the head and a lower knurled or fluted portion 4 of the same maximum diameter beneath the band 3 so that dirt will be prevented from entering the knurling when the head is inserted in a closely fitting aperture. In one form the knurled portion consists of parallel triangular ribs 5 separated by triangular grooves 6. In another form parallel flat-topped triangular ribs are spaced by considerably wider groves. The upper parts of the grooves 6 terminate in inclined surfaces 7. The screws are preferably formed by the method and apparatus described in Specification 401,946 and 512,072, [both in Group XXII]
