511,851. Pouring spouts for liquid or powder containers. LOEWE, H. J. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5468. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1937. [Classes 18 and 66] Pouring spouts of the kind comprising a pouring surface provided with side cheeks adapted to be pressed together and fitted into an opening in a liquid or powder container are formed with one or more slits to facilitate the pressing together of the cheeks and 'the insertion of them into the opening. Fig. 1 shows one form of spout according to the invention, adapted for the container orifice shown in Fig. 4g. It comprises a corrugated pouring surface f and quadrant-shaped side cheeks 2, 2<1>, provided with locking lugs 7, 7<1>, and 8 8', to prevent accidental withdrawal, the cheeks in this instance being formed with slits 9, 9<1> for the purpose stated. The slits may, however, be formed in the pouring surface or between the wings and the locking lugs, and several modifications relating to these alternative constructions are described in the Specification. Fig. 4d shows one form, in which the slits are afforded between the locking lugs 16 and the cheeks 2, in the stage of being inserted into the opening. Fig. 17 shows a further form of spout provided with locking lugs 46 adapted to be sprung under a flap B which is pressed down as shown in Fig. 19 during the insertion operation.
