Abstract

511,816. Photographic-processes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Aug. 6, 1938. No. 23314. Convention-date, Aug. 9, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] In producing a physically developed metal image by means of a diazonium compounds, the exposure is made on a photo-sensitive layer whose support 'is a lyophile transparent film containing a colloidally dispersed material which is substantially insoluble in the solution used for the physical development and by which local variations 'of concentration of the photo-sensitive diazonium compound are caused in the film. The colloidally dispersed material may either be introduced during the manufacture of the suoport, or formed as a colloidal precipitate thereon. In an example, a film of regenerated cellulose is soaked in a nitric solution of bismuth nitrate which is then hydrolysed by a mixture of ethanol and water. The film is then sensitised by a' solution containing 2-diazo-1-hydroxy-6-. methyl-benzene-4-sulphonic acid and mercurous nitrate or silver nitrate, the exposed film being physically developed by a solution containing metol and tartaric acid. An alternative sensitiser contains p-diethylamino-benzene-diazonium chloride-zinc chloride and silver nitrate or p-diphenylamine-diazonium sulphate and silver nitrate. Alternatively the film may be soaked in zirconium oxychloride and then sensitised. Specifications 391,677 and 439,005 are referred to.
