Abstract

511,811. Converting ; automatic control of D.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 18, 1938, No. 21245. Convention date, July 21, 1937. [Classes 38 (ii) arid 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Speed.-In an arrangement providing individual and con-joint control for a number of D.C. motors forming a sectional paper machine drive, the motors, or, as shown, speed-regulating windings 6 thereon, are included in the respective anode circuits of a grid-controlled multi-anode rectifier 10, and the voltages applied to the several grids are controlled individually (e.g., automatically to maintain a given speed ratio between the motors) and also simultaneously, (e.g., by varying the speed of a control motor 22 with which the speeds of the individual motors are compared). Control of the individual grid voltages for the rectifier 10 is effected by inductances 21 the values of which depend upon the angular relationship between shafts 20, 24 as described in Specification 435,545, [Group XXXVII]. Where the control is effected by means of the field winding 6, a second rectifier 13 connected as shown is provided to enable current to persist in the winding during the non-conducting half cycles of the rectifier 10.
