Abstract

511,535. Colour photography. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N. V. Feb. 17, 1938, No. 4946. Convention date, March 30, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] To produce colour photographs on multilayer material, light-sensitive silver salt images are formed in each layer and the film is exposed to uniform light of such a character that it is totally absorbed in an outer emulsion layer so that the image in that layer may be colour-developed separately. In one exmple, three-layer material, with layers sensitive to blue. green, and red (nearest support) is exposed, developed, and fixed, and the silver converted to halide. The emulsion layer nearest the support is then illuminated through the support with ultra-violet light which is strongly absorbed by the gelatine and does not penetrate to the two other layers. The exposed layer is then colour-developed with a developer containing dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine and alphanapthol. After dyeing the film with tartrazine, it is illuminated from the other side with ultra-violet light, so that only the outer emulsion is affected, and this emulsion is colourdeveloped with a developer containing dimethylp-phenylenediamine and acetoacetanilide. The film is thereafter exposed to white light and the middle layer colour-developed with a developer containing dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine and pnitrobenzylcyanide. The developed silver is finally removed, as with Farmers' reducer. In a modification, after the layer nearest the support has been treated as described above, the silver may be removed therefrom and the film dyed with tartrazine and exposed to dark blue light from the support side. This penetrates the image in the lower-most emulsion layer but is absorbed in the middle layer which may then be colour developed. The upper layer is then treated with white light and colour-developed as before. Instead of treating a film containing negative silver halide images as above, the film may be reversed after camera exposure and then treated as described.
