Abstract

510,751. Floats for aircraft. SOYER, R. May 25, 1938, Nos. 15611 and 15612. Convention dates, May 26, 1937, and June 26, 1937. [Classes 4 and 113 (ii)] A float element for aircraft comprises an inflatable bag which can be retracted completely into the surface of the craft. It comprises a gas-tight bag 4, an inextensible cover 3 which controls its shape when extended, and a rubber diaphragm 5 to retract the bag when deflated.. The bag is provided with inlet and discharge points 6, and 8. When this member forms a wing tip float in an aircraft with a considerable distance between the wing and the water the floor case 16 is mounted on a telescopic support comprising a series of concentric tubes 12a, 12b &c. and 19a, 19b &c. This is extended by admitted pressure fluid to the space 26 and retracted by similar admission to the space 22. The tubes 12 are of oval section 'so that the pressure . fluid used for extending the strut distorts and locks them in the extended position. The device is locked'in the retracted position by the parts 17 engaging the stops 18. In a modification the inflatable bag is mounted to form a float or fin projecting laterally from the sides of the hull of the craft.
