Abstract
510,472. Relieving cutter-teeth &c. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., GOULDER, J., and MERRITT, H. E. March 19, 1938, No. 8498. [Class 60] Mechanism for relieving cutter-teeth &c. for example, for spiral bevel cutter grinding- machines comprises means for moving the cutter &c. relatively to the grinding &c. tools, the cutter k' shown as a face mill being mounted on :a table k rotatably carried on a spindle m guided for axial movements. The table k is rotated continuously from a motor a through a rope drive b, shaft c, change speed gears d, a shaft e, index change gearing and a gear f<1>, which is on a shaft g driving, through worm gearing g', hand gears j, j<1> the table k. Pivoted to the spindle m is a lever n having at its ends rollers n<1>, n<2> respectively engaging cams o, p, the cam o, which is driven by worm gear e<1> from the shaft e, serving to give the spindle a predetermined number of axial movements in each rotation of the table to lift the cutter teeth into engagement with, and to lower them from, the grinding-wheels. The cam p, which is driven through worm gearing r', r<3> and gears r<2> from the shaft g, serves to lift the spindle at appropriate times to feed the teeth to produce relief thereon. The gearing r' can be disconnected by a clutch from the power drive, to allow hand setting or operation of the feed cam p. Three rotating tools are used to grind the sides at top faces of the teeth.
