510,447. Suction dredgers. SMIT & ZOON'S SCHEEPS-EN WERKTUIGBOUW N.V., L. Feb. 1, 1938, No. 3119. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1937. [Class 68 (i)] In a suction dredger with a suction tube consisting of elastically-connected parts, the tube is composed of two substantially straight parts 1, 2, forming, on the underside, an obtuse angle of preferably 100 degrees to 130 degrees and both partly counterbalanced by yielding suspending means so as to maintain the pressure on the ground substantially constant. One or both parts may have a bend 21 for connection to the flexible part 3, and the tube 1 is rotatable in a tubular member 22 carrying the support 18 and is connected through a flexible part 5 to the elbow 4. Tackles 6, 7, are provided for raising the suction tube the parts of which are counterbalanced by means of cables 8, 9, passing over pulleys 11, 12, carried by pistons moving in hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders 15, 16..Chains 19, 20, reinforce the support 18. The suction head is provided with a surrounding sleeve which leads water downwardly thereto.
