Abstract

510,298. Projection screens. HARKNESS, T. S. July 25, 1938, No. 22085. Drawings to Specification. [Class 97 (i)] Closely woven metal fabric, such as wire gauze or knitted wire fabric, is impregnated or coated with a water-resisting surfacing composition or paint to provide a projection surface, and is perforated for sound transmission. The fabric may be 70 mesh gauze of 38 gauge soft phosphor bronze wire or 60 mesh gauze of 37 gauge copper wire, and the paint may consist of barytes and zinc oxide with appropriate oils and solvents and a small proportion of cellulose material. The paint is preferably fireproof ana may be applied bv spraying on to one side, or in bulk on one side, the gauze being then passed between a roller and a knife edge. The perforations may be circular, of one sixteenth of an inch diameter, and may be arranged one sixth of an inch apart in rows and staggered or otherwise; they may be formed before or after the application of the paint. The screen may be formed of several fabric sections sewn or clipped together. Specifications 499,923 and 510,313 are referred to.
