[Class 6 (i)] A device for distributing powdered and granular material comprises a wheeled vehicle having a perforated bottom which is opened and closed by the movement of the vehicle, means being provided for scattering the material over an area extending beyond the width of the vehicle. Fig. 1 shows the device in the form of a wheelbarrow 2 the bottom of which is provided with slots which are opened and closed by a grating connected by rods 16, 17 to a crank 18 on the wheel 5. The maximum opening of the slots is regulated by a second grating operated by a threaded rod 10 and handle 14. Beneath the vehicle is a disc 40 which is rotated by a cord 46 passing round a pulley 48. The disc may be ribbed and removable and when rotating scatters the material fed through the slots in the bottom of the barrow. The rod 17 may be uncoupled from the crank 18 and supported on rests on the side of the barrow when the device is not in use. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which apertures 7 in the bottom of the barrow are opened and closed by arms 30 which are given an oscillating motion about a pivot 29. In a further modification the oscillating member consists of a perforated disc. The throw of the oscillating member may be varied by providing the crank 18 with a series of holes in any one of which the rod 17 may be engaged. The oscillating member may be disposed below the perforated bottom of the barrow, and the perforated bottom, oscillating member, regulating grating and scattering disc may all be carried on a removable frame fixed to the barrow. In a further modification the scattering disc is replaced by sloping plates 51 as shown in Fig. 3.
