[Class 36] A watertight covering for a cable core 1, more particularly a telephone cable core, comprises a plurality of layers of helically applied metal tapes 2 which are each coated on one or both sides with linings 3 of polyvinyl chloride or other synthetic material of the polyvinyl or polyacryl type, the layers of tape being surrounded by an outer sheath 4 of the synthetic material mixed, if desired, with plasticisers. The tapes may be of aluminium 0.1 mm. thick. The lined tapes may be applied in overlapping or abutting turns, the overlapping or abutting edges being stuck or fused together by heat.
