Abstract

509,597. Fitting and closing bags. DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND VIUWITIONVFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Nov. 18, 1937, No. 31754. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1936. [Class 94 (i)] Tn a machine for filling and closing bags, the bags are conveyed to the working positions by an oscillating gripper arm of T-shape, each lateral extension being provided with a pair of grippers for successively gripping the bags at their lower ends. The empty flat bags 2, Fig. 2, are taken from a magazine 1 by a wedgeshaped opener 3, which moves downwards into the foremost bag and then turns about a pivot 4 to the position shown in broken lines. A measured quantity of material passes from a shoot 6 into the bag, the shoot having a bottom flap which may be opened by the advancing bag opener. At this point the bag is seized by grippers 10, Figs. 4 and 5, on an oscillating arm 9 carrying two sets 10, 11 of grippers, and is moved to the gumming and folding station, Fig. 4. Simultaneously, the previously filled and closed bag is taken by the grippers 11 to a pressing and delivery station. At the folding station, adhesive is transferred from a roll 20 by an arm 17 to the flap of the bag. An extension 18 of which rocks about its pivot on the arm between the positions shown. A creasing knife 22 moves into the position shown in full lines, and a folding bar moves from position 23 to position 24 to turn the flap over and to hold the bag. The grippers 10, 11 now open and the arm 9 returns them to the first position, shown in broken lines in Figs. 2 and 5. Upon a repetition of the operation, the grippers 11 seize the closed bag and transfer it to the pressing position ; where a bar presses the closure and holds the bag while the grippers again open and return. The pressing bar opens and releases the bag, which falls in front of a plate 30 which turns about a pivot 32, at the same time tilting into a vertical position, and forces the bag into a discharge shoot 34.
