Abstract

509,449. Sorting by weighing. SOUTHALL & SMITH, Ltd., and WEAVER, F. W. April 19, 1938, No. 11684. [Class 143] Relates to automatic weighing-machines for the check weighing of manufactured products (usually in the form of packets) and of the type wherein the packets are conveyed to the weighing machine (or a series thereof) by a conveyer band c and are then transferred individually to the scale pan d, the packet being subsequently transferred from the pan to another conveyer x, or other discharge position. The invention consists in transferring the packets on to, and off, the scale pan d by means of a pair of pushers j, j mounted on a slide b arranged horizontally and transversely over the feed conveyer c and scale pan d, cam-operated mechanism being provided for imparting horizontal movements to the slide and vertical movements to the pushers. The slide is reciprocated by means of a cam i, lever e and link g. The vertical movements of the pushers are effected by parallel motion linkages m actuated by a rod q, lever rand cam u. In action, the pushers are advanced by the slide from the position shown so as to move the left-hand packet k over a fixed support w on to the scale pan d, and to move the right-hand packet k off the scale pan on to the conveyer x. The pushers then rise and are returned and lowered to their initial positions.
