Abstract
509,205. Hydraulic power transmitters. COTAL, J. Sept. 15, 1938, No. 26946. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1937. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also. in Group XXIV] A double clutch, for connecting a driving shaft 1 either to a shaft 19 connected directly to a driven mechanism or to a shaft 20 which is connected to the driven mechanism through a hydraulic converter or the like, comprises a driving electromagnet 5 with armatures 15 and 16 disposed on opposite sides thereof and splined on the shafts 19 and 20, the armatures being normally urged away from the magnet by springs 22 and being attracted into frictional engagement with the magnet upon selective energisation of windings 6 and 7 in the magnet. The latter is secured between the two parts 3 and 4 of a closed casing secured to the shaft 1. The part 4 has a pair of oppositely-arranged radial passages 25 and 26 communicating with the interior of the casing through ports 27. Oil may be supplied into the casing through the uppermost passage, the port 27 of the lowermost passage determining the oil level. The control means for the windings may be actuated automatically by the speed, load, gradient, or the like.
