Abstract
508,937. Nails for heel building. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, T. B. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 12927/39. Divided out of 506,912, [Group VII]. [Class 89 (ii)] In building heels for boots and shoes, a nail 13, Figs. 1 and 2, is employed which has a cylindrical shank 21, a point 23, and a substantially headless end with a recess 25. The recessed end is upset to form a head and the point is turned over for clenching. In being driven, the nails are guided by a block having slight oversize passages to allow for the burr produced in making the recess. The nails, after driving, project slightly as shown in Fig. 4, and the heel is thereupon totally enclosed and compressed in the direction of the length of the fasteners. Thereby the nails assume the form shown in Fig. 3. To increase the grip, the nails assume the form shown in Fig. 3. To.increase the grip, the nails may have recesses or projections which may take the form of screwthreads. The part near the recess may be smooth.
