Abstract
5 0 8, 6 8 6. Current collectors for electric vehicles. LIVINGSTONE, R., and ANTI-ATTRITION METAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 36207. [Class 104 (iii)] In order to maintain a uniform contact pressure, a collector shoe 10, 11 has a spherical projection 25 bearing on a spherical cup 22 supported by the vertical spindle 21 of the trolly head. The centre of the spherical surface 22 may be below the plane of contact between the shoe and the wire, as at A, or above it, as at C, or coincident with it, as at B. If it is at A, the vertical mid-plane X-X of the contact is located ahead of the vertical centre line Y-Y of the bearing in the direction of movement; if it is at C, the plane X-X is behind the plane Y-Y; and if it is at B, the planes coincide. The pole 12 carries one or more insulating sleeves 13, a dry-spot insulator 14 and a split metal sleeve 15, from which the current passes to an internal terminal 17. An insulator 18 separates 12 from 13. The body 19 supporting the spindle 21 is mounted on the pole by a split sleeve 19<1> and a nut 20. A shackle 29 and ring 31 prevent the shoe being turned through 180 degrees. A spring shunt 32 may be inserted between the surface 25 and the spindle 21 to prevent pitting.
