[Class 46] Water which has been treated with softening reagent is passed upwardly through a bed of material, such as marble in granular form, which provides crystallization nuclei for the precipitated matter, at a rate which does not exceed the rate of sedimentation of this matter but is sufficiently high to maintain the nuclei in motion.
