Abstract

507,616. Hollow-ware. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO., Inc. May 17, 1938, No. 14765. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 66] [Also in Group XXII] Metal containers with seamless bodies as described in Specifications 488,427, 488,610, and 488,628 have bottoms comprising a skirt portion and a flat or dished portion 13, Figs. 2 and 3. The bottom is a push fit in the body and may be located by a groove 18. A cir. cumferential groove contains joint sealing material 16 which is rendered effective by pressure caused by rolling a groove 21 in the body. Final securing is effected by curling the edge 23 of the body round the preformed edge 17 of the skirt. In a modification the part 19, Fig. 5, is formed so that the groove containing the sealing material is closely adjacent to the bottom. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a further modification in which the groove 15 is dispensed with and the sealing material co-operates with the curl 29, Fig. 6 (Cancelled). In another modification the whole bottom is covered with scaling plastic, varnish or paper 37, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), that extends also between the body and skirt which are in close contact over the circumferential groove. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
