[Class 59] [Also in Group I] The cellulose pulp obtained after the extraction of starch from potatoes is pulverized in a dry state by subjecting it to a high speed centrifugal beating action and sifting the pulverized substance round the beating zone by a sieve having fine openings diverging in size outwards. The beating mill . comprises .a housing a in which is mounted a shaft b carrying a cross c having its arms provided with beating projections d. Annular plates f provided with projections e are inset in the sides of the casing and the beating members are surrounded by an annular sieve having fine openings diverging outwards. The pulp is fed into the mill through the funnel i. The holes in the sieve have a diameter of between four and ten thousandths of an inch at their smaller ends.
