[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 16, 1938.] [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXI] To unify the stress in the rubber 23 of an elastic mounting for a cardan shaft housing 10, Fig. 1, comprising two coaxial conical metal shells 21, 22 with rubber bonded between them, the shell 21 nearest the centre of oscillation of the joint possesses a smaller apical angle than the shell 22. In a further construction, in which the shells are in the form of surfaces of revolution 29, 30 generated by the arcs of circles, ellipses, parabolas or hyperbolas, the shell 29 nearest the centre of oscillation of the joint possesses a greater general curvature than the shell 30. The surfaces of the inner and outer shells may be placed so that the imaginary completed surfaces come into contact on the axis of the joint. The rubber 23 may be slit radially to increase its elasticity or several blocks may be put in parallel to increase its rigidity. A cover 25 may be provided to protect the rubber.
