Abstract

507,110. Hydraulic transmission of power ; servomotors. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and CLENCH, E. C. S. March 12, 1938, No. 7787. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] In a liquid pressure remote-control system, a valve controlling the flow of working liquid from a pressure source to a double-acting slave unit is actuated through the medium of a liquid pressure pilot system comprising a manually operable reversible flow transmitter pump, a a slave device fed therefrom to actuate the control valve, and an auxiliary cylinder and piston unit which is coupled mechanically with the double-acting slave unit and is connected in circuit with both the transmitter pump and the slave device so that, as the double-acting slave unit moves to a position corresponding with the prevailing position of the transmitter pump, the control valve assumes its " off " position, the control valve being arranged with means whereby the pressure of the liquid actuating the double-acting slave unit creates pressure in the pipe lines of the transmitter pump, thereby causing the operating resistance of the latter to vary in accordance with the pressure of the liquid fed to the slave unit from the pressure source. A motor driven pump or other convenient continuous source A actuates the slave device C operating the tiller 11 of a ship, under the control of a valve B ; the latter is actuated by a transmitter pump E, movement of the tiller operating an auxiliary slave D connected in with the pump E and the working spaces 29, 30 for operating the valve. In the inoperative position of the valve member 13, collars 14, 15 thereon close off the lines 16, 17 leading to the slave C; the pump delivery passes through holes 18 in the valve member to the interior thereof and through an axial bore 19 therein, and by lines 20, 21 to the pump suction ; pistons 23, 24 actuated by the pressure in the working spaces 29, 30 which they define, have conical or frusto-conical portions 25, 26 adapted to close the ends of the bore 19 when the valve is actuated by means of the transmitter pump E. Connections 59, 61 provided with valves 60, 62 respectively enable the pump E to be used as a stand-by transmitter in the event of breakdown of the main transmitter A. Relief valves 64, 65 are connected across the lines 16, 17 ; a hydraulic lock G is provided.
