Abstract
553,803. Controlling variable delivery pumps. SHAW & SONS (SALFORD), Ltd., J., and SHAW, J. B. Dec. 19, 1941, No. 16409. [Class 135] A control mechanism for variable delivery pumps wherein a main pump is brought into operation by pressure generated by a pilot pump has a bye-pass valve arranged on the delivery side of the pilot pump which is held open when the control member, actuated either manually or automatically under the influence of the load on the delivery side, is placed in its neutral position to prevent the pilot pump building up an operating pressure. In the form shown in the Figures the main pump is regulated by a reciprocating member 4 actuated by a double-acting piston housed in a cylinder 5. The two sides of the cylinder are connected by pipes 13a, 13b to a reversible pilot pump 3. The control member 7 of this pump is actuated by a floating lever 6 pivoted at 4a to the member 4 and to a link 8 pivoted to a hand-lever 9. The conduit 13a is connected by a pipe 21 to a port 20 on the by-pass valve 15 mounted on a support 16. A piston valve 17 controlling the connection between the port 20 and a vent pipe 20a is actuated by a link 18 connected to a crank arm 19 coupled to the hand lever 9. The two sides of the control cylinder are fitted with relief valves 14. The hand-lever is coupled by a link 12a to a hydraulic telemotor transmitter 12. Where creeping in either direction from an intermediate neutral position is to be avoided a bye-pass valve is provided in both the pipes leading from the pilot pump.
