Abstract
507,007. Cable ends. SOLUTION TRUST, Ltd. Dec. 7, 1937, No. 33838. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1936. [Class 36] The end of an electric cable having one or more conducting cores insulated from a surrounding continuous metal sheath by compressed refractory pulverulent insulating material, such as magnesia, is sealed by means of a solid body of refractory insulating material, an additional quantity of refractory insulating powder being inserted between such body and the cable insulation, thus ensuring the desired dielectric continuity between the cable insulation and the solid body. In the figure a quantity F of insulating powder is introduced into a cavity made in the cable insulation B, and is compressed by applying pressure to the insulating plug E. For ensuring a fluid-tight joint, a metal sleeve C is passed over the sheath C and is closed at both ends by means of gland nuts J, H and metal packings H<SP>1</SP>, J<SP>1</SP>. The nut J also permits the application of end-wise pressure. A nut K and packing K<SP>1</SP> complete the sealing. The added powder may be the same substance as the cable insulation.
