506,569. Vitamins ; durohydroquinone ethers. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. AKT.-GES., F. Sept. 28, 1938, No. 28184. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1937. [Class 2 (iii)] Durohydroquinone monophytyl ether, which displays the action of Vitamin E, is prepared by reacting durohydroquinone with phytyl halides in approximately equimolecular proportions. According to the example, durohydroquinone is heated under reflux with phytyl bromide in the presence of acetone and potassium carbonate and in an atmosphere of nitrogen, and the resulting ether isolated chromatographically. Phytyl compounds.-Phytyl chloride is prepared from phytol and phosphorus pentachloride and phytyl iodide by reacting the chloride with sodium iodide in alcohol solution.
