Abstract

506,550. Thermometers. WILSON, F. R. L. Jan. 17, 1938, No. 1463. [.Class 97 (iii)] A portable temperature incticating instrument comprises a rod or transparent tube carrying two substances which change colour at different temperatures and which present contrasted colours at normal temperatures and when heated. As shown, a band A carrying a coating of mercuric cuprous iodide, which changes from scarlet to black at 160 F., and a band B carrying a coating of mercuric silver iodide, which changes from lemon yellow to orange pink at 104‹ F., are held against the inner wall of a transparent tube C by packing F and spacing rings, D and E. In a modification the colour changing substances are applied in bands to the end of a solid rod and are protected by an outer transparent tube. Specification 442,992 is referred to.
