442,992. Thermometers. WILSON, F. R. L., Middlebriars, Priors Field Road, Godalming, Surrey. June 12, 1935, No. 16906. [Class 97 (iii)] An instrument for indicating when a particular temperature has been reached comprises a rod or tube to which is applied a chemical compound, e.g. mercuric cuprous iodide, which changes colour when heated and returns to normal colour when cooled. In the form shown a band of paper C with the compound applied to the outer surface is inserted within a glass tube A. A packing of cotton E is provided within the band and the tube A is closed by a stopper G and provided with a handle D. The compound may be mixed with varnish and applied directly to the inner wall of the tube. Alternatively the compound may be applied directly or on a backing to the outer surface of a solid rod and covered by a sleeve of glass or celluloid or incorporated in the substance of which the rod is made.
