[Class 106 (ii)] [See also Group XX] Comprises a scale of cylindrical form for measuring lengths in any units in which the scale divisions are constituted by a division line in the form of a helix on the cylindrical surface, a microscope or like optical device being provided for reading the scale divisions. The helical line may be interrupted and extend over a part only of the periphery of the cylindrical scale. This form of graduation is stated to facilitate manufacture and the scale which is made of metal or glass is especially suitable for use on measuring and co-ordinate drilling- machines.
