Abstract

506,453. Lining mine - roadways, shelters, &c. RICHARDS, F. April 12, 1938; No. 11190. [Class 85] Relates to a lining for mine-roadways, underground air:raid shelters, and like constructions comprising plurality of spaced and strutted steel arches 1 having the spaces between adjacent arches filled in by sheetsteel panels 4. According to the invention, each of the spaces between adjacent arches is filled in by a panel which is set either between the webs of the arches as shown in Fig. 2 or with its edges disposed immediately over the backs of the arches as shown in Fig. 7. is arcuately bent to inverted-U-form, and is formed either by a single sheet or a number of rigidly -connected sheets, the single sheet, or each of the rigidly connected sheets, being arranged to extend continuously between adjacent arches and being of greater dimension in the direction of curvature of the arches than in the longitudinal direction of the construction. The arches 1, which may be of I-section and formed either of a single length or. of a number of jointed pieces, are provided with slots 2 in the webs for the reception of the reduced ends of longitudinal tie-bars. The panels 4 may be of flat or corrugated form, and, in the latter case, the corrugations may be of flattened-trough shape and of such a depth as to permit the panels to fit between the tie-bars and either the inner or outer flanges of the arches. The sheets of which a panel is formed may be connected by riveting, welding or bolting. In the case when the sheets are placed on the outside of the arches, the adjacent edges may overlap, as shown in Fig. 7. The lining may be disposed in a trench and subsequently covered over with soil. Specification 369.869, [Group X), is referred to.
