Abstract

506,257. Floors; blocks. BIRCH, F. Aug. 24, 1937, No. 23134. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A device for use in supporting a wood floor on a concrete base comprises a metal tray having inwardly-inclined sides 10 whereby a cavity is formed having a dovetail-shape at all sections at right-angles to the base of the tray and having also keyways in the tray in the form of holes or openings 9 for the passage of keying-cement either when the tray is fixed in the floor or in the subsequent filling of the tray to hold a joint-supporting clip in place in the tray. The tray may be filled with an easily-removable material, such as wood-wool or paper, or it may be provided with a metal cover, to prevent the tray being filled with cement before fixing a joist-supporting clip therein. After the tray has been fixed in the floor, either by pressing it into the plastic concrete of the floor or by casting the concrete around the tray, the joist-supporting clip is secured in the tray by filling the latter with cement or concrete. This material will'either pass through any of the holes 9 which are still free, or key with the concrete which has passed through the holes 9 from the outside of the tray. Additional keying-means may be provided in the form of pockets 12 in the sides of the tray, or a downwardly-projecting rag-bolt. The tray may also be provided with legs 14, Fig. 6, to support it above a base-on which the concrete of the floor is to be cast. If desired, a number of trays may be threaded on a steel rod passing through the holes 9 in the sides of the tray. Concrete blocks may be provided with the trays embedded therein.
