[Class 83 (iii)] A multi-tool lathe of the kind in which the tools operate on the lower quadrant of the work and are carried in slide rests which are moved on a slideway which is parallel to a. plane passing through the centre of the work and the cutting edge of the tool, has two independent slide rests 2, 3, Fig. 1, mounted on a slideway 1 and capable of movement along the slideway in opposite directions. The tools 4 may thus start their cuts at opposite ends of a workpiece and move towards one another during cutting.
