505,259. Indiarubber and like compositions. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION. Nov. 5, 1937, No. 30339. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1936. Addition to 468,361. [Class 70] [Also in Group VII] In the permanent attachment of an outsole to a shoe bottom by means of coatings of polymerized chloroprene, the adhesiveness of the coatings is allowed to become reduced by lapse of time or by the action of water, as in tempering the sole, and is temporarily reatored by the application of a swelling agent before pressing together the outsole and the shoe bottom. The swelling agent may also contain a curing agent for the chloroprene, e.g. a butyraldehyde aniline condensation product. Suitable swelling agents are benzene, xylene, trichlorethylene, carbon tetrachloride, and propylene oxide. A suitable chloroprene composition comprises plastic polymerized chloroprene, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, sulphur, monoethanolamine, diethylamine, benzene and trichlorethylene.
