[Class 44] A flush handle arrangement for the latch of a motor vehicle door comprises a cup 11 let into the face of the door and having a handle plate 26 hinged to an outer edge of the cup. As shown, the handle, which forms a closure spaced from the bottom of the cup, and substantially flush with the face of the door, has a horizontal hinge 27 at its lower edge and has a recessed rear face 42 to facilitate grip by the finger ends, which are inserted through a clearance 32 between the upper edge of the handle and the cup wall. The clearance is normally closed by a displaceable plate 43 having a spring hinge 44. Alternatively, the hinge 27 may be arranged along the upper edge of the handle, with the clearance at its lower edge. A connecting member 24, slidable with angular play through a bush 25, is articulated to the handle and pivoted at 23 to one arm of a crank lever, the other arm 19 of which bears against a projection 18 on the latch bolt 16. Bolt 16 is normally shot by a spring 17 anchored, to a casing 15 through which the bolt slides and on which the lever is pivoted, and is retracted by pulling handle 26 outwards. The bolt may be locked by a keyoperated revolving barrel look 38 which serves to shoot a dog 37 into a recess in the bolt. A modification is described in which the handle is mounted at one end on a vertical hinge and a key-operated revolving barrel lock mounted in the connecting member controls a dog which can be shot into engagement with a recess in the bush to lock the handle against operation by preventing axial movement of the connecting member.
