[Classes 18 and 66] A container for granular, semi-fluid or fluid materials has a discharge-controlling device comprising a plate n movable to cover and uncover one or more discharge apertures a in the body, or, as shown, in the lid of the container, and a housing c for the plate, the housing having one or more discharge apertures m and lugs i, k, which are passed through slots in the body or lid and turned thereunder. Movement of the plate to the uncovering position is limited by abutment of a ridge s thereon with an edge of a slot t in the housing. The plate is held by the housing in sliding contact with the body or lid. The plate may have an oscillatory movement about a pivot. An adhesive or other seal may be applied over the device. In a modification, for use with liquids, the two apertured ends of a narrow plate fit into two opposite apertured housings and may be slid into register with a discharge outlet and air inlet respectively on the container top.
