Abstract

504,058. Vacuum cleaners. WHEELDON, M. Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2251. [Class 8 (i)] A rotary agitator in the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner has a central drive pulley 16, bearing plates 17 fixed to the pulley end bearing plates 19 and rubbercovered rollers 23 bearing rotatably in the plates; the rollers may be fluted. In addition to the rollers, brushes 24 may extend between the plates, being supported in channels 25 held in position by spring clips 26, in slots in the plates; screws 27 passing through the central spindle adjust the brushes. The rollers 23 may be carried in bearings capable of inward movement against springs to prevent jarring. According to the Provisional Specification, the rollers may extend the full length of the agitator or may be drilled to reduce weight and allow passage of dusty air.
