Abstract
503,850. Bottling. WORSSAM & SON, Ltd., G. J., and FOX, D. P. S. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 27985. [Class 125 (ii)] Bottle-lifting mechanism for use in bottle filling machines of the circular revolving type comprises a two-stage bottle lift, the first stage being a quick-lift action, while the second stage applies seating pressure for fixing the bottle mouth tightly within the filling head. The bottle-lifting mechanism consists of a tubular member 1 slidable in a tubular guide 2 and carries a platform 25 in which is screwed a rod 24, encircled by a spring 28. A plunger 5 slidable in the member I is provided, at the upper end, with a hollow rectangular section extension 23, which receives the square head of the rod 24. The plunger 5 is connected by a gudgeon pin 11 and link 12 to a lifting arm 13, pivoted at 14 and carrying an anti-friction roller 21 bearing on an inner cam track 22. After a bottle has been placed on the platform 25 the cam 22 elevates the bottle lift and brings the bottle mouth into the appropriate filling head. Thereupon a roller 10 carried by the plunger 5 is operated by a short outer cam track 32 to apply the sealing pressure. A catch 30 engages a pin 9 on the plunger and retains the bottle lift in elevated position under scaling pressure. When the lift is to descend with the filled bottle the catch 30 is released. The position of the platform 25 relative to the lifting mechanism is adjusted by releasing the set screw 26 and lock nut 27 and turning the platform 25 on the screw threads of the rod 24.
