[Class 141] Garments, e.g. articles of linen, having one or more parts, e.g. collars or cuffs joined to the main body of the garment to extend beyond the edge thereof by a continuous connecting element, e.g. sewing or adhesive, the said part or parts being capable of being torn off by destruction of the connecting element, and of being replaced by a part or parts of a similar nature, are characterized in that of the marginal portions involved in each such joint, at least the marginal portion of the main body of the garment is finished off in the form of an attaching border hemmed at its free edge. In the form shown, the marginal portion of a shirt neckband A is formed with a lined channel f between the finished-off side limbs of which the marginal portion g of a collar B is secured by a seam m, the seam also passing through a tearing element k, e.g. a tape or cord which is stitched to the portion g, and is provided at the rear of the collar with a looped portion, Fig. 4, to facilitate grasping when it is desired to exert a pull on the element k to detach the collar. The depth of the channel f is defined by a seam h passing through the layers of the neckband. In a modification, the channel f may be formed on the collar instead of on the shirt. In another modification, the tearing element is disposed only along a portion of the joint. In a further modification the tearing element is dispensed with. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a collar the top portion of which is provided with an additional facing layer which is adapted to be detached with the aid of a tearing element. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
