[Class 146 (iii)] In a pencil holder of the kind having two or more longitudinal members 1, 1<1> grooved to accommodate a lead and adapted to be pressed together to grip the lead, shoulders are formed on the members adjacent the front end and co-operate with a tube 10 surrounding the members, the shoulders and tube being forced into co-operation by means of a resilient member such as a spring 14 but being releasable by pressure on the rear ends of the members which project beyond the tube. The rear ends of the members may be held together by a screw 11, a distance piece being interposed if desired. The spring 14 is arranged between a projection 10b on the tube and a cap 13 screwed on to the ends of the members. A pusher for the lead movable between the members and in a slot in the tube may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification, the longitudinal members may be tapered at each end to receive correspondinglyshaped clutch rings one of which may carry a pocket-clip; in this form two leads of different hardness may be employed. A pusher, in the form of a strip movable between the members and provided with a central boss, may be provided and a ring engaging the strip may be slidable on the members. The clutch ring or rings may be sprung into tapered circumferential grooves to prevent loss.
