Abstract

502,973. Magnetic tests. JOHNSON, L., and FELL, H. Sept. 29, 1937, No. 26325. [Class 37] A fluid for detecting cracks in ferrous metals consists of a liquid suspension of magnetic particles comprising ferrous silicate. It may also contain black magnetic oxide of iron and small particles of iron, and the liquid may be any suitable hydrocarbon such as paraffin. The solid components are preferably obtained by chemical reaction such as precipitation, and a deodorizer may be added.
