Abstract

502,873. Moulding cavitied articles. HUMPHRIS, F. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25896. [Class 87 (ii)] A mechanism for intermittently moving cavity-formers a in the mould c of a moulding machine comprises a rotatable cam o which contacts with roller-pallets n<1> on a pivoted anchor-lever n to rock it. An arm m of the anchor-lever is coupled by a link k<2> to a coupling rod kl connecting the centre joints of two toggles g which are supported at one end on a bracket j<1> and are connected at the other end to a support e carrying the cavity-formers a. The support e is arrested in its lowest position by stops r. The centre joints of the toggles are spaced by a tubular distancepiece k8. In operation the cavity-formers a are raised into the mould c which is then filled. The plunger p then compresses the material, the formers a being moved down with the plunger p. When the plunger p is raised the moulded article is ejected by the plunger b and the formers a are then raised again into the mould. The machine may be used for moulding bricks, briquettes, electrical-insulators, &c. from clay, resins, rubber, cement, pulp, and other compositions.
