[Class 120 (i)] An encased cylinder or beater for cleaning and opening cotton &c. comprises rings or discs b, Fig. 4, mounted on a shaft a and having machined seatings b<1> in which built-up lag structures are supported and secured by bolts f, Figs. 5 and 6, each lag consisting of a longitudinal block c machined at intervals laterally to receive shaped strikers or blades d, which are secured on the block c by angle plates e, Fig. 11, shields g, Fig. 1, being fitted between the lags and covers h provided at the ends.
