502,203. Well - drilling tools. MAC CLATCHIE MANUFACTURING CO. OF CALIFORNIA. Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32388. Convention date,.Nov. 30, 1936. [Class 85] An expanding tool for enlarging wells &c. comprises a body carrying a cutter movable relative thereto, a movable mandrel, the periphery of which is overlaid by the cutter, and an operative connection betweer the mandrel and the overlying part of the cutter for moving thE cutter to expanded position on movement of the mandrel rela. tively to the body. The body 1 has non-radial slots 4 in which cutters 7, on pivots 8, are arranged so that lugs 11 thereon overlie the periphery of an axially movable mandrel 6. The mandrel is hollow and pressed by a spring 30, the bore of the mandrel being re: stricted by a plug 20 when the mandrel is in raised position. Pressure fluid admitted to the body depresses the mandrel and lugs 12 thereon engage the lugs 11 to expand the cutters into engagement with the wall of the well, some of the fluid passing through ports 18 to the cutters ; the weight of the drill string completes movement of the cutters to move lugs 11 clear of the lugs 12. ,
