[Class 142 (iv)] Thick weave fabrics wherein " either a warp or several weft layers or several warps and several weft layers are interconnected by weaving " have. warp and/or weft threads of or containing binding substances so disposed that they are not exposed on the outer sides of the fabric. A permanent elastic stiffness is produced by treatment with a solvent for the binding substance and simultaneous application of heat and pressure. One-third of the warp threads may consist of binding substances. The binding substances may comprise cellulose acetate and nitro cellulose artificial resins of low polymerization, for examples resoles made on a phenole base or vinyl artificial resins. For 'rendering the binding substances temporarily adhesive, acetone, methyl alcoholbutyl acetate, dibutyl tartrate or diethyl phthalate may be used. The fabric may have a warp layer and two weft layers. Cotton or acetate artificial silk weft or warp threads spun round with threads of. binding substance, or threads impregnated with the latter may be used. The fabric may have warps 1, Fig. 1, wefts 2 and threads 3 of a binding substance such as cellulose acetate, or warp threads 1, Fig. 2, normal wefts 2 and weft 4 of a binding substance. The fabric may be used for collars, shirt fronts, pique fronts for dress shirts, and trimmings.
