[Class 135] [Also in Group XIII] In a closed-cycle heat transfer system charged with a volatile liquid and including a condenser coil 14 wound upon the evaporator 13 of an 'absorption refrigerating apparatus, and an evaporator 15 in a chamber to be cooled, volatile liquid is forced intermittently from a heat-insulated vessel 25 connected by tubes 23, 24, Fig. 2, controlled by valves 31, 32 with a vessel 21 connected to the coil 14. The valves are carried by a pivotally-mounted plate 35 the position of which is regulated by a snap-action toggle mechanism comprising links 38, 39, Fig. 3, pivotally mounted on an extension 43 of a bracket 44 secured to the top of the vessel 25 and having a depending arm 50 connected by links 48, 49 to a rod 51 secured to a float 52 in the vessel; The link 39 of the toggle mechanism is connected by a link 47 to the link 48. In the closed position of the valves, the vapour evolved in a container 28 connected to the vessel 25, which is exposed to the air, passes into the vessel 25 and forces liquid therefrom to the evaporator 15. When the liquid level in the vessel falls to a predetermined height, the float falls and the valves 31, 32 open' thus permitting the flow of liquid into the vessel 25 and the container and equalizing the pressure between the vessels 21, 25. In a modification, the container 28 is replaced by a tube 58, Fig. 7, and vapour is prevented from entering the vessel 25 when the valves 31, 32 are open by a valve 59, Fig. 8, carried on an arm of the toggle mechanism. The valve closes the end 60 of the vapour inlet from the upper end of the tube 58.
