Abstract
502,119. Lasts &c. SMALL, L. F. Oct. 6, 1937, No. 27071. [Classes 17 (i) and 17 (iii)] A last which may be used in making and finishing a shoe, may be left in the shoe after manufacture as a filler, and may then be sold with the shoe as a tree, comprises a removable instep block 3 adapted to be lifted at its rear end for removal, the front end being then slid rearwardly. The division between the instep block and the main body of the last is near the sole surface of the last, so that the main part of the last may be readily removed from the shoe. When the main body is hinged, the instep block forms a strut to maintain the last extended. Preferably, a fourth block 4 is interposed between the heel portion of the last and the instep block. The instep block has a bore 23 cut away at an angle at 23a and co-operating with a dowel pin 19. A second pin 20 is urged upwardly by a spring 22 and engages a groove at the rear end of the instep block. A cord 30 loosely connects the parts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications, 2028/92, 14653/93, 2514/95, [all in Class 17], 4491/09, 25871/11, and 243,569, [all in Class 17 (i)].
