Abstract

502,034. Printing-machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R. (Hoc & Co., Inc., R.) Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24635. [Class 100 (ii)] The driving gears of a cylinder of an offset ur other printing press are constructed so as to permit of circumferential adjustment of a cylinder of any kind relatively to its driving gears to permit of accurate register, or adjustment of margin space, and also the gears are constructed to enable back-lash to be taken up. The circumferential adjustment is effected by means of a pinion 15 on a shaft 16 rotatably carried by a bush 28 secured to a driving gear 21, the pinion 15 being engaged by a segmental gear on an arcuate plate 12 secured by screws 13 to a plate 11 connected to the cylinder 9 by means of screws 10. The gear 21 is normally connected to the cylinder 9 by bolts 31, 32 which pass through arcuate slots 24, 29 in the gear and screw into tapped holes in the plate 11. The bolts 31, 32 are slackened and the shaft 16 rotated in order to adjust the circumferential position of the cylinder relatively to the gear 21. A backlash gear 22 is mounted alongside of the gear 21, and consists of a gear of similar pitch and diameter which can be adjusted relatively to the gear 22 by slackening screws 34 which pass through arcuate slots 33 in the gear 22 and are received by tapped holes in the gear 21. The shaft 16 is held from axial movement by a screwed plate 36 engaging a recess in the shaft. An index 38 is provided on a block 37 secured to the gear 21 and coacts with a datum mark on the plate 11 to indicate the adjustment of the cylinder 9 relative to gear 21. The gear 22 is slotted to permit of passage of the shaft 16 and the bolts 31, 32.
