Abstract

501,694. Extruding dough. HANSSEN, E. H. Feb. 26, 1938, No. 6147. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for extruding dough, having a piston for forcing the dough through a nozzle and a knife for cutting it off into lengths, is provided with hand-operated actuating mechanism which on being moved in one direction operates the piston while the knife is stationary and in the other direction actuates the knife while the piston is stationary. The piston is carried by a toothed rod 5 and operates in a cylinder 1 having a nozzle at one end and a belt 3 for removing the cut pieces. A hand lever 13 is pivoted on a shaft 11 and carries a pawl 14 which engages a ratchet wheel 12 in one direction and operates the piston rod 5 through a pinion 8. A second pawl 15 prevents movement of the ratchet in the reverse direction. The knife 7 is reciprocated in a detachable slide 16 by a pivoted rod 20 having a cam 23 at its free end and a second adjustable cam 24. The rod 20 is actuated by catches 28, 34 on a slide 25 which is reciprocated by the lever 13 through links 27. The'catch 28 is pivoted on a pin 29 and is held upright by a spring so that when moved in one direction it is deflected by a cam surface 33 on the cam 23 and in the other direction it engages the cam 23 and operates the knife 7. The catch 34 engages the cam 24 to raise the knife. The conveyer 3 is driven by a chain 38 from the axle 11. A hand wheel 40 is also provided on the axle 11 for retracting the piston. The stroke of the piston is controlled by adjustable stops 47, 48 engaging the catch 34. The cylinder 1 is mounted on pivots 41 so that it can be swung into the vertical position for filling and is held down by a pin 42.
